New Dresden Vocal School
The "founding" of the New Dresden Vocal School (hereafter NDVS) was triggered by the concert of the same name in July 2013,
which was coupled with a workshop and mediation project for singers and composers, which Olaf Katzer and his audiences carried out with the soprano and proven expert on contemporary vocal art, Sarah Maria Sun, at the Leonhardi Museum Dresden and at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden.
The success of this project at the time, but also its lasting success, prompted the team and ensemble alike to pursue the possibilities of a Dresden-centred "school of contemporary vocal art" further, towards an ensemble art for the 21st century. It is to be seen less as a centre for training and further education than as a forum for meta-disciplinary interaction with singing & music, and art & culture in general. The NDVS is to be fed by the composition of a wide variety of (vocal) musicians, (sound) artists and (music) scholars who are jointly interested in defining and advancing ensemble art for the 21st century.
