Therefore: we live
Heinrich Schütz's Musical Exequia reinterpreted
In 2022, the 350th anniversary of Heinrich Schütz's death will be celebrated worldwide.
On behalf of the Central German Heinrich Schütz Music Festival and SCHÜTZ22, AuditivVokal Dresden will use this occasion to re-examine the "Musical Exequia" in collaboration with three composers and reinterpret it in its musical, spiritual and spatial dimensions: the Exequia will be interwoven in three parts with three new compositions, creating a moving new work from old & new.
The two Spanish personalities José Mª Sánchez-Verdú (*1968) and Alberto Arroyo (*1989) have been won as composers, who will create the new work together with a new composer yet to be selected in an international competition. In terms of content and dramaturgy, the topoi of death, mourning, but also the idea of eternal life play a decisive role in the new setting. From the musical perspective of the further development of a contemporary doctrine of affects and contemporary word-sound relationship, a current approach is to be gained for a new quality of experience of the "Musical Exequies": "Therefore: we live".
A composer will be selected in spring 2022 after an international call for proposals. More information will follow.
