O sweet song, O cry of delight!
Concert programme in the framework of the
Hammerschmidt Honour 2022
Andreas Hammerschmidt worked in Zittau for more than three decades - reason enough for the city to honour this great musician and composer of the 17th century.
The culture of remembrance is a valuable part of our identity. In it, we remember formative events and our spiritual ancestors, visualise their living conditions, their challenges, fruitful achievements as well as stories of impact. With historical consciousness - under a layer of rapid change and abrupt transformation - a slower, calmer anchoring of perspective on the now becomes possible. The Saxon composer and organist Andreas Hammerschmidt (*1611, †1675), whose 411th birthday we celebrate this year, is undoubtedly one of them. Zittau was the centre of Hammerschmidt's life for 36 years.
AuditivVokal Dresden is pleased to be able to provide music for the 7th Hammerschmidt tribute on Reformation Day in the museum "Kirche zum Heiligen Kreuz Zittau". In this concert, works by Hammerschmidt will be counterpointed with compositions from the 20th century and our own day.
