The concern that machines may one day render humans useless or "dominate" them is an old one and is gaining new relevance, especially among young people, in view of the progress of adaptive computer programmes.

The information philosopher Floridi speaks of a 4th revolution, where it seems that the machines are more intelligent than we are. Against the background of the AI exhibition, AuditivVokal followed the idea of emphasising those sides of intelligence that are essentially alive and human in response to this challenge. The programme includes a work by Alberto Arroyo dedicated to emotional life as its own dimension of intelligence and one by Tobias Schick that provokes intelligent learning processes through an "artificial" frame shift.

Oscar Wilde expressed in a letter in 1891: "Art is useless because its aim is simply to create a mood. It is not intended to instruct in any way or to seduce to action." This quote could be the motto for Alberto Arroyo's "Myth of Joy", which deals with moods and emotions by means of a prose text free of morals and teachings. Based on an ensemble work with Maja Dzhemukhadze on the diversity of personal emotional tones and vocal expression and a grotesque tale of the gods, a piece of music was created in which a multitude of moods and emotions take on musical form and want to "infect" the listener accordingly. Arroyo falls back on baroque approaches, according to which certain affects are evoked by definable musical figure types. Analogous to Pascal's calculating machine, which transfers thought processes to a machine, an early baroque "measurement of the life of the soul" is a cultural technique of "outsourcing" emotional triggers. This creates a dialectic between self-efficacy and the manipulability of emotionally intelligent life.

In the premiere of Tobias Schick's work "Inkonsequenza for virtual ensemble", music can make us aware of something of reality by making audible how the interpretation of reality is influenced by culturally, socially and biographically preformed patterns of interpretation. It thus refers to an expanded concept of "intelligence" that aims beyond the ability to solve problems as efficiently as possible to being able to find one's way in new situations and to think around corners. "Inkonsequenza for Virtual Ensemble" was conceived as an instrumental work, but is realised by a vocal ensemble. In it, typical instrumental gestures, textures and sound situations are used and transferred to the voices. This makes the consequences of the experimental frame shift for human perception clear: How does a virtual instrumental ensemble sound different from an actual instrumental ensemble? But how does the virtual instrumental ensemble also sound different from what one might expect it to sound like?
